Question:

I`d like to try a oil on my face around my mouth. Do you recommend any? My skin feels like I have a mild sunburn all the time. Thank you.

Answer:

squalene oil is my favorite. JG 1.16.14

Question:

Hi Dr., now that I know you would use Restalyne in the upper cheek area, I must ask you...why oh why do these injectors differ so much in their practice? The question is why would Restalyne be better than Radiesse, and what would you use in the mouth area (marionette and those parenthesis lines). I don`t have the money to be ripped off, but will surely go with your advice, even of it means that I have to save a bit more. Thanks a million.

Answer:

I do not use Radiesse as the carrier sugar gel that the hard fragments are floated in is dissolved in 6 weeks leaving only about 30% of the amount injected and then you must hope for growth of tissue around the fragments. I find it therefore expensive and unpredictable. In the nasolabial fold area if superficial I use Restylane, if deeper I use Perlane. I wish you the best. JG 1.14.14

Question:

Thanks, the energy level (mJ) was 30, treatment level was 5, with 8 passes. Actual kJ was .82 whatever that means. What do you think?

Answer:

8 passes I think was the culprit. JG 1.14.13

Question:

I know you`re not a fraxel expert, but I can`t seem to get a honest answer from the doctors who use this laser. I had one fraxel restore about a year and a half ago around my mouth. Since then I`ve developed some scarring and crepy skin where I used to have a lot of acne but no scars. Is this scar tissue? My skin also became very dry in this area and I wondered if the oil glands were also affected. I`m 58. Any hope for inprovement in time? Thanks for being here....

Answer:

it can be scarring if the Fraxel was set at too high an energy or areas were overlapped. The oil glands are usually not affect with a Fraxel as they reside much deeper than the energy of the laser is delivered. I am sorry to say that if it has been 18 months there is not much chance it will get better and you will need to use good moisturizers in that area. I wish you the best. JG 1.14.14

Question:

Hi Dr. Garcia, What do you think of Ultherapy for the neck? I was wondering if it might help define the jawline a bit until I`m ready for a surgical procedure? Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Answer:

I am not a fan or believer in the claims. It might define the jawline by killing off some of the fat cells, but it will not tighten skin to any degree if it does not accomplish that. If it does kill some fat, there is truly no skin tightening but only skin redraping so it appears tighter because the skin actually has to cover a larger area. If there is no fat there for you to lose, I believe the change in skin will be minimal to none. JG 1.13.14

Question:

What is your opinion of the IS Clinical line of skin care products? In particular, I`m interested in their Active Serum and their Youthful skin cream. I hear that their products are very good for highly sensitive skin. Thank you for your honest opinion!

Answer:

seems OK, they do not clearly give the list of ingredients and that makes it hard to evaluate. JG 1.13.14

Question:

Would you use Restalyne, or Radiesse to fill the upper area of the face? Upper cheeks, underneath eyes, and to extend laterally towards the eyes. I`ve had great results with just the tear trough area from a dermatologist who used Restalyne. He was very, very expensive though, and so I sought a consult with another injector (who basically scoffed at the thought that I had Restalyne under the eyes). Can you advise?

Answer:

I would use Restylane, so I am scoffing at the scoffer. JG 1.12.14

Answer:

fair price but i think the wrinkles around the eyes will only look better for 12-18 months as they cannot use a high setting on the laser on that thin skin. The rest of the face will yield longer results. JG 1.12.14
